Another dinner at the same restaurant? Krakow has far more to offer. You can celebrate a birthday party in Krakow on a historic tram, on a boat, in a cellar with live music or on a pitch where everyone plays inside inflatable balls.
We’ve put together eight ideas that work for an 18th, a 30th or a big milestone birthday, plus a sample plan for the evening and practical tips for the organiser.
How to choose a birthday idea
Start with the person celebrating: do they love being the centre of attention, or would they prefer a small get-together? Then count the guests and check how many are coming from outside Krakow. With a few dozen people, one exclusive attraction works best; with a smaller group, go for a few shorter activities linked by a stroll around the city. It’s also worth agreeing on the budget straight away – and on who’s in charge of the cake.
8 unusual ideas for a birthday party in Krakow
1. A surprise birthday on a party tram
The crew take their seats on board a few stops earlier, while the birthday boy or girl, convinced they’re waiting for an ordinary tram, suddenly sees a party on wheels pulling up in front of them. For the next two hours the tram is all yours: music, club lights, cake and champagne for a toast. On request, we’ll help arrange decorations, a live performance or a fireworks show. You’ll find the packages and extras in the TramParty Krakow birthday offer.
2. A boat party on the Vistula
A party on the water is a great idea for a summer birthday – the sunset over the Vistula and the view of Wawel do the work for you. A private boat is hired for two hours, and cake and champagne for your guests can be ordered as extras. Birthday cruises are organised by our sister brand BoatParty.
3. A Bumper Ball match
For active crews: a match played inside large inflatable balls, in which you can collide, fall over and roll around without getting hurt. For a birthday match the organiser brings 10 balls, a referee who doubles as an entertainer and music, and can either come to a place of your choice or help you hire a venue. Details on the BumperBall Krakow website.
4. Dinner in a cellar beneath the Market Square
The medieval cellars around Rynek Główny (the Main Market Square) have an atmosphere you simply can’t fake: brick vaults, candles and thick walls that muffle the noise from the street. Many of the restaurants here take group bookings, and some have separate rooms with plenty of space for the cake, decorations and speeches. Book ahead, as these rooms fill up quickly at weekends.
5. An evening of live jazz
If the person celebrating prefers atmospheric evenings to loud parties, book a table at a jazz club. Harris Piano Jazz Bar has been running in a cellar on the Main Market Square since the 1990s, with concerts almost every day. You can also hear live music in an intimate cellar setting at Jazz Club u Muniaka on Floriańska Street.
6. A birthday at the water park
Slides, a wave pool and jacuzzis make for a birthday where nobody ends up standing by the wall. Park Wodny (the water park) on Dobrego Pasterza Street offers group discounts, and after your swim you can move on to dinner in the centre. Check the opening hours and the admission rules for groups before you go.
7. Workshops for the whole crew
Cocktail, cooking or pottery workshops make for a birthday that leaves you with a keepsake – a mug you’ve made yourself, a recipe or the skill to mix your favourite drink. Group classes are easy to combine with dinner or the rest of the party.
8. Go-karting or a shooting range
A birthday with a shot of adrenaline: a race on a go-kart track finished off with a champagne podium, or a competition at a shooting range under the watchful eye of an instructor. Schedule them for the start of the day and save the toasts until the contest is over. Tracks and ranges often have ready-made group packages, with a briefing and short contests for the title of party champion.
How to organise a surprise birthday party
A surprise works when as few people as possible know the plan. Settle on one cover story – dinner for two, a trip to the cinema or a walk – and stick to it right to the end. Ask the guests to arrive at the starting stop in good time, and in the final minutes get someone to keep the birthday boy or girl talking so they don’t look at their phone.
If you’re planning a surprise on the tram, describe the details in your enquiry. We’ll be completely discreet and advise you on the start time and stop, so the birthday star suspects nothing until the very end. A small prop for the welcome also works well – a sash, a crown or a banner with their name, all of which will feature in the very first photos.

Practical tips
- Number of guests – package prices apply to groups of 30 people or more. Smaller groups can party on the tram too: the TramParty Krakow page has offers for both small and large groups.
- A joint present – the tram ride can be a gift that friends or family club together for.
- The surprise – choose one person to bring the birthday boy or girl to the stop, and keep the plan secret until the last minute.
- A theme – the 1980s, a gala night or the birthday person’s favourite film: a shared theme looks great in photos, and we can prepare decorations in your chosen colours.
Frequently asked questions
Can we bring our own birthday cake on the tram?
Of course. You can bring your own cake with candles or order a cake, catering and snacks for your guests from us. A champagne toast at midnight can be arranged too.
Where can a tram party start?
From almost any stop in the city. Choose a place that’s convenient for most of your guests – we’ll confirm the start, the route and the finish when you book. We usually plan the end of the ride in the centre, close to Kazimierz and the Old Town.
How far in advance should we book a tram for a birthday?
The minimum is 5 working days. The most popular slots – Friday and Saturday evenings – get snapped up sooner, though, so it’s worth sending your enquiry via the offer page as soon as you know the date.
Book your private tram party
Surprise the birthday boy or girl with a private party tram – music, club lights, cake and a champagne toast on board. Send us an enquiry and we’ll prepare an offer.
