Torun has everything you need for a great girls’ weekend: a fairy-tale Gothic Old Town, a riverside boulevard on the Vistula, atmospheric bars and gingerbread you can bake yourselves. A hen party in Torun is easy to plan so that everyone finds something she loves – from a relaxed afternoon to a party that lasts until dawn.
Below you’ll find 10 ideas – including two gingerbread workshops, which the city is famous for – plus a sample plan for the night and answers to the questions hen party organisers ask most often.
Where to start planning
Start with the number of people, the budget and the vibe you’re after. A smaller group will be in its element at a workshop and a dinner together, while with a dozen or several dozen guests it’s worth considering an attraction you can have all to yourselves. If the group includes the bride’s mum, sisters and friends from different stages of her life, combine a calmer afternoon with a party in the evening – everyone can join in wherever she feels most at home.
10 ideas for a hen party in Torun
1. A workshop at the Museum of Torun Gingerbread
Muzeum Toruńskiego Piernika, on Strumykowa Street, is housed in the former Weese family factory. In the workshop on the ground floor, with a guide showing you how, you’ll make decorative gingerbread from the original dough and spices, finishing with a tasting. The museum takes workshop bookings for groups, so it’s best to fix a date a few weeks before the hen party. Gingerbread you’ve baked yourself is a souvenir that won’t end up in a drawer full of party gadgets.
2. A show at the Living Museum of Gingerbread
At Żywe Muzeum Piernika on Rabiańska Street, sightseeing turns into a performance. The Master Gingerbread Baker and the Witch introduce guests to the old gingerbread-making rituals: you knead the dough to an old recipe, shape the gingerbread in wooden moulds and take a solemn oath – and you get to take your bake home with you. Anyone who fancies it can also decorate their gingerbread with coloured icing under the guidance of an artist. Tickets can also be bought online – with a larger group, do it well in advance.
3. A private party on a tram
A tram turned into a club on wheels is an attraction like no other. For two hours you ride through the streets of Torun – for example around the Gothic Old Town, through Rapacki Square and along the Sikorski Embankment – with music playing inside and, with the Star and VIP packages, lighting effects and lasers too. We’ll decorate the tram in the colours of your night, and with the Star and VIP packages, prosecco or champagne can be waiting for you on arrival. You’ll find all the details on our Torun hen party tram page.
4. A photo shoot in the Old Town
Gothic townhouses, brick gates by the Vistula and Rynek Staromiejski (the Old Town Market Square) make a ready-made backdrop for photos. Book a photographer for an hour, choose a shared outfit theme and stop by Krzywa Wieża (the Leaning Tower) – legend has it that anyone who has sinned can’t keep their balance beneath it, so you’ll also find out which of you has something on her conscience.
5. A cruise on the Vistula
In season, sightseeing boats leave from Bulwar Filadelfijski (Philadelphia Boulevard), and the Old Town seen from the river looks completely different from how it does from the cobbles. A cruise is a relaxed item for the afternoon, before the evening part of the party begins. Once you’re back on dry land, you can stay on the boulevard, where barges with beer gardens are moored along the quay.
6. A girls’ afternoon at the spa
If some of the group are travelling from far away, start the day with some relaxation: a massage, the sauna and a moment in bathrobes. Ask the hotel you’re staying at about its spa area and group packages. If you have the whole weekend, consider a trip to Ciechocinek, around 24 km away, famous for its brine graduation towers and spa park.
7. A cocktail workshop or wine tasting
A cocktail-making class with a bartender or a wine tasting is a way to get the evening going without loud music. Each of you makes your own cocktail, and the best recipe might even end up on the wedding drinks menu. It’s a good option for the hour before dinner.
8. Dinner in Gothic surroundings
The Old Town has plenty of restaurants set in medieval townhouses and brick cellars. Book a table for the whole group in advance, especially on a Friday or Saturday, and let the staff know if you’re planning a cake or giving presents to the bride-to-be.
9. An evening stroll and the Cosmopolis fountain
After dinner, walk over to the Planty park by Fosa Staromiejska (the Old Town Moat). After dark in the tourist season, the Cosmopolis fountain – inspired by the planetary system described by Copernicus – puts on shows of water, light and music. From there it’s a short walk to the Old Town’s illuminated monuments, which look completely different at night.
10. Clubs and the after party
For the grand finale, pick one of the pubs or clubs in the Old Town – they’re easy to reach after the tram ride, as we usually agree the final stop in the centre, near the Old Town. With a larger group, book a table or a booth so you don’t waste time queuing.
