The Tricity (Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia) is a great destination for a stag weekend: the sea, an atmospheric old town, bars, clubs and three different cities linked by a commuter railway. Before you book accommodation, though, it’s worth deciding where your base will be and where the main party will take place. In our experience, a stag do in Gdansk combined with a night out in Sopot offers the most options.
Below we compare Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia for a stag weekend, suggest activities for the whole group and share a sample plan that fits in a party tram, pubs and a club to finish.
Gdansk, Sopot or Gdynia – a quick comparison
Gdansk – the old town, brewpubs and a party tram
Gdansk is the largest of the three cities and the most convenient base for a weekend. In Główne Miasto (the Main Town) you’ll find brewpubs such as Piwnica Rajców beneath Artus Court and Brovarnia on Szafarnia Street, bars on Piwna and Chlebnicka streets and, in the former shipyard, the B90 concert club. Gdansk is also the only one of the three where you can hire a party tram – there are no tram lines in Sopot or Gdynia.
Sopot – Monciak, the pier and the clubs
Sopot is the place for anyone dreaming of a big club night. Ulica Bohaterów Monte Cassino, known as Monciak, is lined with bars and restaurants, there are clubs in the surrounding streets, and a few steps further on begins the pier – the longest wooden pier in Europe. The downsides? It gets crowded at the height of the season, and accommodation needs to be booked well in advance.
Gdynia – the boulevard, the port and a calmer vibe
Gdynia is more orderly and laid-back. It works well if your stag do is meant to combine activities with good food: a walk along Bulwar Nadmorski (the Seaside Boulevard), the view from Kamienna Góra hill and Kościuszko Square with the moored sailing ship Dar Pomorza. For a club night, Sopot is an easy hop away on the SKM commuter train.
Which should you choose?
The most convenient option is to base yourselves in Gdansk. Start with daytime activities and the tram party here, then move on to Sopot by taxi or SKM. Save Gdynia for a quieter Sunday stroll. You’ll find all the parties we organise in the city on the TramParty Gdansk page.
Activities for a stag do in Gdansk and the Tricity
1. A private party on a tram around Gdansk
Two hours on a private tram with music is a real highlight of the programme. The Star package includes club lighting and lasers, a welcome beer or something stronger, soft drinks, salty snacks and a red carpet entrance. The VIP package adds a DJ with equipment, a bartender or hostess, a dedicated party host and photo coverage. The route can run along Wały Jagiellońskie, to Oliwa or to seaside Brzeźno. You’ll find the details on our stag do on a tram in Gdansk page.
2. Go-karting, paintball or a shooting range
The afternoon before the party is a good time for some friendly competition. In the Tricity you’ll easily find go-kart tracks, paintball fields and shooting ranges that take groups. Book a slot in advance and agree one simple rule: no alcohol until this part of the programme is over.
3. A yacht cruise on the Bay of Gdansk
In the warmer months, a yacht cruise with a skipper is a brilliant idea. There are marinas in Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia, so it’s easy to match the starting point to the rest of your plan. A few hours on the water, music and a sunset watched from the deck make memories that last for years. Remember that the skipper and the weather decide whether you can sail, so it’s worth having a back-up plan on land.
4. Dinner at a brewpub
In the Main Town, the beer is brewed on site at Piwnica Rajców and Brovarnia. Dinner over the house beer is a good, more relaxed start to the evening before you hit the town. For a larger group, book a table a few days ahead.
5. Pubs, bowling and billiards with a party host
Don’t want to plan the route yourselves? On request, we’ll provide a party host or guide to take you round pubs, bowling alleys or clubs – wherever the group fancies. We can also help you book accommodation and transport in Gdansk.
6. A club to round off the night
For the grand finale, choose a club. Sopot and the area around Monciak are the classic choice, while in Gdansk an interesting option is Bunkier Klubogaleria on Olejarna Street – a club in a former air-raid shelter, with several floors and a mix of music.
Sample stag do plan for the Tricity
- 15:00 – go-karting, paintball or a shooting range
- 18:00 – dinner at a brewpub in the Main Town
- 20:00 – the party tram sets off from the stop closest to your hotel
- 22:00 – the ride ends near the Main Town, then pubs on Piwna Street
- Midnight – a taxi to Sopot and a club near Monciak
The times are easy to shift – we agree the date and start time of the tram individually, and you can choose almost any stop as your starting point. If the bride-to-be is organising her own celebration at the same time, take a look at our hen party in Gdansk page too.
Practical tips
- Accommodation – stay in Gdansk, ideally in the Main Town, so you can walk to the pubs and to the starting stop.
- Booking the tram – get in touch at least 5 working days before the party, and much earlier for a weekend in high season.
- Getting around – SKM trains run between the cities, but after the party it’s easier to order a few taxis.
- Outfits – fancy dress and printed T-shirts for the whole group look great on the tram, and we can decorate the carriage to match the theme of the night.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place for a stag do in the Tricity?
The combination of Gdansk and Sopot offers the most options: daytime activities, a tram party and pubs in Gdansk, and a club in Sopot to finish. Gdynia works well for the quieter part of the weekend.
Can the party tram go to Sopot?
No – the tram runs on the Gdansk network, and there are no tram lines in Sopot or Gdynia. The ride can, however, take you to Oliwa or seaside Brzeźno, and once it’s over you can get to Sopot by taxi or SKM.
How many people do we need for the tram?
Package prices are for groups of at least 30 people. If there are fewer of you, send us an enquiry and we’ll prepare an offer for a smaller group. The ride lasts 2 hours, and during that time the tram is entirely at your disposal.
Book your private tram party
