When darkness falls, Piotrkowska Street changes its rhythm. The hurrying passers-by disappear and groups of friends take over, drifting between pubs, cocktail bars and clubs. If you want to get to know Lodz nightlife, this is the place to start – along the city’s main street and in the courtyards of former factories, there are countless places where Lodz lets its hair down after hours.
We’ve put together a guide to Piotrkowska at night, section by section: where to meet, where to eat before the party, where to look for clubs and how to get back to your hotel safely. We deliberately don’t name specific bars – they change faster than the street itself – but we do tell you where to look.
Piotrkowska at night – section by section
On Piotrkowska Street you’ll find almost every kind of night spot: cocktail bars for a relaxed start, pubs with draught beer, bars with live music and clubs where people dance until late. Below we go from north to south – the most convenient way to plan a route for the night.
1. Plac Wolności – the meeting point
The northern end of Piotrkowska, with the Kościuszko Monument in the middle of plac Wolności (Liberty Square), is a natural meeting place – easy to find and easy to find each other. Before you head south, look in at number 3, Pasaż Róży (Rose’s Passage). The tenement building in the courtyard is covered in pieces of mirror – a work by Joanna Rajkowska and a great backdrop for your first group photo.
2. The promenade between plac Wolności and Piłsudskiego Avenue
This is the heart of Piotrkowska at night. The restored tenement buildings house restaurants, pubs and cafés, and in the warmer months beer gardens spring up outside. The venues are so close together that it’s easy to move on when one gets too crowded or the music stops suiting you. Tired feet can rely on the rickshaws that run along the street.
3. The Grand Hotel and the Avenue of Stars
By the Grand Hotel, stars bearing the names of Polish film personalities are set into the pavement – this is Aleja Gwiazd (the Avenue of Stars). For a group that splits up between different bars, it’s a handy landmark – everyone will understand “meet you by the stars”, even after a few drinks.
4. OFF Piotrkowska
At number 138/140, in the former Ramisch spinning mill, you’ll find the best-known party spot on Piotrkowska. The brick courtyard is full of bars, restaurants, food trucks and clubs with alternative music, so you can start with dinner and finish on the dance floor in the same place. At weekends, book a table for a larger group well in advance.
5. Stajnia Jednorożców – the end of the promenade
At the junction with Piłsudskiego Avenue stands the central tram stop, Piotrkowska Centrum, which locals call Stajnia Jednorożców (the Unicorn Stable). This is where the promenade ends, so it’s a good place to regroup before heading back to your hotel. A few steps away, on the wall at Piotrkowska 152, you can see one of the first contemporary murals in Lodz.
Lodz nightlife beyond Piotrkowska
Manufaktura
The market square of the former Poznański factory doesn’t empty out in the evening: people come for dinner and a stroll, and in summer there are beer gardens and open-air concerts. It’s a good option for a calmer start to the evening, especially as plac Wolności is less than 20 minutes’ walk from Manufaktura.
Monopolis
The complex in the former vodka factory on Kopcińskiego Street is the address for a more elegant evening: dinner at a restaurant, then a concert or a show at Scena Monopolis (the Monopolis Stage). It’s about 2 km from Piotrkowska Street, so after dinner it’s easy to move on to the centre. With a big group, ask the restaurant about a larger table or a separate room.
A sample night on Piotrkowska
A simple rule works best: dinner and the first drinks on the northern part of the promenade, then gradually further south as far as OFF Piotrkowska, where you stay longer. You keep heading in one direction, nobody gets lost on the way, and at the end you’re close to Stajnia Jednorożców.
- 19:00 – meet on plac Wolności and take a photo in Pasaż Róży,
- 19:30 – dinner at one of the restaurants on the promenade,
- 21:00 – two hours on a private tram,
- 23:00 – cocktail bars and pubs on Piotrkowska,
- 00:30 – a club at OFF Piotrkowska.
Warm up on a party tram
If you’re celebrating with a bigger group – a birthday, a stag do or a work night out – start the night on a private tram. For two hours you ride around the city with music and club lighting, and the ride can start from almost any stop. We usually end the ride in the centre, near Piotrkowska Street, so you can walk straight from the tram to the rest of the night. Take a look at our TramParty Lodz page or at the packages for a stag do.
Practical tips
- Bookings – with a larger group, book a table at least at your first venue, especially on a Friday or Saturday.
- ID – carry your ID card or passport; staff at venues serving alcohol may ask you to prove you’re over 18.
- Getting back – before you go out, check whether night public transport runs at that time, or book a taxi for a specific time.
- Season – in summer, life happens in the beer gardens along the promenade and in the courtyards; in winter it moves inside the tenement buildings and old factories.
- Budget – agree in advance whether everyone pays for themselves or you use a shared kitty. With several changes of venue, it saves a lot of hassle.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place in Lodz for a night out with friends?
Most of the action is on the Piotrkowska promenade between plac Wolności and Piłsudskiego Avenue and in the courtyard of OFF Piotrkowska. For a quieter evening, choose Manufaktura or Monopolis. You’ll also find ideas for a party with a bigger group in our article on birthday parties in Lodz.
Do you need to book a table on Piotrkowska?
For a few people it’s often enough to arrive early, but for a bigger group at the weekend a booking makes things much easier. It’s best to book your first venue and leave the rest of the night to chance.
Can the party tram end its route near Piotrkowska?
Yes. We usually agree the final stop in the centre, near Piotrkowska Street, from where you can walk on to the rest of the night. The ride itself lasts 2 hours, and it can start from almost any tram stop in Lodz.
