Torun isn’t a big metropolis – and that’s exactly what works in its favour. Instead of hours in taxis, you get a compact Gothic Old Town where restaurants, pubs and clubs are just a few minutes’ walk apart, and the university students give the city plenty of energy. That makes a stag do in Torun easy to plan so that nobody gets lost along the way – even after midnight.
Below you’ll find tried-and-tested ideas: from adrenaline-fuelled activities, through speedway and beer from a local brewery, to a party on a private tram. There’s also a sample plan for the night and answers to the questions we hear most often from stag do organisers.
Where to start planning
First, agree on the number of people, the budget per head and the style of the night: sporty, party-focused or a mix of both. If some of the group are coming from other cities, book accommodation in or right next to the Old Town – that way everyone can walk back to bed after the party. Book group activities in advance, especially for weekends, and leave some slack in the plan for surprises for the groom-to-be.
Ideas for a stag do in Torun
1. A private party tram
A tram turned into a club on wheels sets the tone for the whole night right from the start. For two hours you ride through the streets of Torun with music playing inside, and the Star and VIP packages add lighting, effects and lasers, a red carpet entrance and a cooler with ice. With the VIP package, a party host runs the programme, a DJ takes care of the music and you get photo coverage of the party. You can compare all the packages on our Torun stag do tram page.
2. A shooting range, go-karts or paintball
A good stag do often starts with a bit of competition. In and around Torun, shooting, go-kart racing, paintball and quad biking are all organised for groups. It’s best to schedule activities like these in the afternoon, before anyone reaches for a drink – and the winner earns the right to make the first toast.
3. A speedway meeting at the Motoarena
Torun has strong speedway traditions, and meetings are held at the Marian Rose Motoarena. If your stag do falls during the season, check the fixtures – cheering from the stands is a great warm-up for the evening’s party, and supporting a team together bonds a group better than many a team-building game.
4. Beer from a local brewery
On Szczytna Street in the Old Town you’ll find the Jan Olbracht brewery, which draws on the city’s brewing traditions. Dinner with beer brewed on site makes a good meeting point for the whole crew – especially if some of you only arrive in Torun after work.
5. A bonfire at Fort IV
Torun was once surrounded by a ring of Prussian forts, and Fort IV, built at the end of the 19th century, now offers accommodation as well as space for picnics and bonfires. Sausages over the fire and a night in a former fortress are perfect for crews who prefer a sense of adventure to the club dance floor.
6. The gingerbread oath
Sounds silly? That’s exactly the point. At Żywe Muzeum Piernika (the Living Museum of Gingerbread) on Rabiańska Street, the Master Gingerbread Baker and the Witch initiate guests into the secrets of the old guild: there’s a solemn oath, kneading the dough to an old recipe and being dubbed a journeyman. The groom-to-be holding gingerbread he baked himself is a photo that will do the rounds of the group chat.
7. Dinner and clubs in the Old Town
Torun’s Old Town is packed with pubs, clubs and restaurants tucked away in Gothic townhouses and brick cellars. Book a dinner table for the whole group, then carry on on foot. If you prefer live music, check what’s on at the Lizard King club on Kopernika Street or the student club Od Nowa.
8. A night-time photo with the city panorama
Before you hit the town properly, walk across the bridge to the left bank of the Vistula. From the viewpoint around Majdany Street you can see the whole illuminated Old Town – you won’t find a better backdrop for a souvenir photo of the crew in Torun.
A sample stag do plan
- 15:00 – shooting range, go-karts or paintball
- 18:00 – dinner at the brewery or a restaurant in the Old Town
- 20:00 – two hours on a private tram with music and lights
- 22:15 – a souvenir photo with the panorama from the left bank of the Vistula
- 23:00 – pubs and clubs in the Old Town
The tram can start from almost any stop, and we usually agree the final stop in the centre, near the Old Town – from there it’s an easy walk to the after party. Bookings must be made at least 5 working days before the party. On request we’ll also help plan the rest of the weekend: we can provide a party host or guide to take you round pubs, bowling alleys and billiard halls, and help you book accommodation and transport. Practical tips
- Budget – collect money from everyone before the trip; by tradition, the groom-to-be parties at his mates’ expense.
- Dress code – matching T-shirts or a costume for the groom look great in photos on the tram and in the Old Town.
- Order of events – schedule sporty activities before any alcohol, and take the night-time panorama photo before the group splits up.
- Getting back – agree in advance who keeps an eye on the groom-to-be and how the whole crew gets back to the accommodation after the after party.
